Supporting Women in Ways Most People Don't

Like it's my job!

Because it IS my job. I just started working for Nordstrom in the lingerie department. Anyone need a great fitting bra? or PJs? or some fun lingerie?

I love it so far. I thought it would be weird, but it turns out that it's not so bad when you crack a few jokes to break the ice. The best part of it is that when I find a great fitting bra for a client, it really boosts their confidence (among other things).

Hot Boxin'

My car on Thursday...

Let me tell you how COOL I felt driving this baby to school. I felt about as cool as the niece getting dropped off at high school by her Uncle Buck (if you don't know what I'm talking about, rent the movie or take my car for a spin...only then will you truly understand) My car was smokin' out the ten cars behind me. I had people staring at me like I didn't notice the atomic bomb coming out of my tailpipe. "What's your name I'll write it for you!"

I was glad that at least the stupid thing was running. It has been pretty good to me for the last couple years (with a few exceptions). I parked it, went to classes, came back and whattyaknow? It decides that it doesn't want to start at all. Now I'm stranded...

***If your sister says, "I hope none of my friends see me in this" when she is riding in your car, you might be a college student.

***If you can't decide how to order the Top Ramen and Macaroni and Cheese (lunch or dinner? dinner or lunch?), you might be a college student.

***If you live off of granola bars because you have no time to make anything, you might be a college student.

Piece of Cake

One of my favorite roommates, Natalie, got married on Saturday. I was so excited when she asked me if I wanted to make her wedding cake! We sat down immediately and went over the design and I increasingly got more and more excited as the day came closer to finally start working on it.

As the days got closer though, my nightmares also started to intensify... what if I trip and fall down the stairs and the cake falls on top of itself?!!! Not to mention, I also shatter my knees in the process, what if I get in a car accident on the way there transporting the cake up to Lehi?!!) Both good possibilities since the stairs at Carriage Cove are a beast and I live on the third floor and Utah drivers are the worst! (No offense to you Utahns, but sorry to say it is true)

Well, I'm happy to say that the cake made it all in one piece!!! (or three pieces, which I assembled at the reception center). Needless to say, I am quite pleased on how it turned out...even better...Natalie liked how it turned out. Phew...I am not going to go down in her journal as the girl who destroyed her special day because the cake sucked!

Here she is...

Then they smashed cake in each others' faces

and lived happily ever after...

...the end.

Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate's...

...Birthday for Matt!!!

It was a little late, but I think I made up for it since it was AWESOME! I had been planning this thing for at about two months. Matt and I have a joke between us about pirates, so naturally I chose that as the theme for his birthday.

The Scavenger Hunt...
I wrote three poems that were clues leading to the treasure at the end, which was his birthday present. The only rules wer that he had to sport the awesome pirate outfit and read the poems out loud in a pirate voice. For some reason, I find great joy in making my friends do ridiculous things. It makes everything so much more fun :)

Matt in his pirate ensemble complete with captain’s hat,
eye patch, earring, sword, and tattoo. He worked that outfit!

Clue #1

Scully the magnet gave the first clue...

“Ahoy, Matey! I’ve found ye at last!
I’ve swabbed the decks and raised the mast.
But me thinks I’ll ne’er get me reward,
As long as I’m sick with the scurvy on board.
If ye’ll help me to cure this ghastly disease,
I’ll lead ye to me treasure with ease.”

I brought oranges and hid them in my car, so Matt had to figure out what cures scurvy (vitamin C), so then he had to find the oranges I brought. this led him to the next clue, but not before he got a weird stare from a guy driving by...I guess the guy had never seen a pirate in the neighborhood before. :)All I've got to say is Matt is SOOOOO lucky I was nice and didn't make him go all over town dressed like a pirate.

Clue #2
"Shiver me timbers, ye found the cure!
It looks like ye'll find the booty for sure.
Me deckhands all bellyache 'bout the rigging,
I hope ye won't complain about digging.
Yer almost there, just follow me rules,
to help you I gave ye one of me tools.
Yer getting closer to finding the lot,
just start yer digging at x-marks-the-spot!"

Matt read the clue and got a box with a mini shovel in it. He had to figure out where he would be digging with his shovel to find the next clue. It took him a little while, but he made his way over to the cake and...

Started digging!

Clue #3

"Raise the anchor, prepare to depart.
Ye early risers get the best start.
Yer journey shall take ye across the sea,
Gazing on treasure soon you will be.
Anchor yer ship to the mainland docks,
And find yer great treasure where ye hide yer socks!
But watch out for me monkey, he's from ASU,
He protects the treasure by flinging his poo!"
Inside joke: Matt told me that he likes to hide his socks under his bed and pretend they are treasure, hence that is where I hid his present. Also, he has two monkeys...one has an ASU shirt on (that's where he went to college), and the other one is just creepy looking. I decided to throw that in at the end because I thought he would get a good laugh out of it...and he did.
On to the treasure...and what was it?

I made a quilt with baseballs all over it. It turned out really
cute and Matt liked it so I was really happy :)

We got matching tattoos as well (Not real of course :)

Happy 24th Birthday Matt!
